Spendthrift stallion Mor Spirit (Eskendereya–I'm A Dixie Girl, by Dixie Union), winner of the GI Los Alamitos Futurity and devastating when running away with the GI Met Mile H. two seasons later, was represented by his first foal Jan. 8 when a colt was born at Fairytail Farm in Texas. The colt, bred by KMA Ranch, is the first from his dam, Firstrate Proposal (Exchange Rate).

“This is a nice foal,” said Fairytail Farm owner Janine Winslow. “He has a beautiful head and really good bone.”

Trained by Bob Baffert for owner Michael Lund Petersen, Pennsylvania-bred Mor Spirit graduated by better than four lengths in his first start around two turns and went on to validate 7-10 favoritism in the Los Al Futurity. Victorious in the GIII Robert B. Lewis S., the dark bay finished runner-up in the GII San Felipe S. and to future Classic winner Exaggerator (Curlin) in the GI Santa Anita Derby. He found career-best form at or around a mile in 2017, winning the Essex H. at 8 1/2 furlongs before winning the GIII Steve Sexton Mile S. by 5 3/4 lengths and the Met by 6 1/4 lengths.

Mor Spirit is standing the 2020 season at a fee of $7,500 S&N.
